Footfall and traffic does not get much denser than around Syntagma square in the centre of Athens. Major banks and retail brands compete heavily for a presence in this location often at a very, very hefty premium. Geniki bank, the retail branch of Societe Generale in Greece is primely situated here right at the beginning of the most commercial street of the capital, Ermou Str. Geniki Bank was looking for a mechanism to raise awareness with consumers of the bank's products and services. Utilizing Fluid's proximity experience, Geniki Bank decided utilise proximity to attract customers to this branch via a number of access points that were set up around the vicinity of the bank. Posters in bus shelters and OOH advertising panels informed passersby to turn on the Bluetooth connectivity of their mobile device. Those who opted-in, received a coupon providing them with an exclusive discount to one of the bank’s financial products. A unique code sytem was used in order to identify each coupon. Coupons were also claimed in branches of the bank in other areas of Athens indicating the virality of the medium.
