When Prooptiki, a division of Audiovisual and the distributor for Disney movies in Greece, was looking for an innovative way to promote the first installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, the first national proximity campaign was born. Pirates of the Caribbean was the first major release that year. Mid August was a period where most of Greek cinema goers were at the beach, away from major city centers. Attracting them to the Ster Cinema multiplexes around the country was going to be a chalenge. Promoting the proximity campaign via radio helped raise awareness for the promotion. Users visiting the multiplex cinemas could for the first time download, for free, exclusive movie related mobile content and participate in a prize draw to win posters signed by Johny Depp. The promotion was great success with over 11.000 users downloading content over a 2 week period.
